Designs on Furniture 2008
"Progetti per il Mobile" (Designs on Furniture), a design competition organised by the magazines Dossier Compomobili and Dossier Habitat, is an initiative targeting designers, young professionals and design school students wishing to become involved in designing modern, innovative and functional solutions. The focus of the 2008 competition is the kitchen, i.e. multipurpose furniture for a room which is no longer used just for preparing food, but has become a social space and focal point of family life. The competition organisers are looking in particular for innovative materials, flexibility and modularity, simple combinations that are easy to use and therefore serve a variety of purposes.
The inclusion of domestic appliance and tools for cooking, dishwashers, space for cutlery and dishes and computer equipment is optional, and the emphasis will be on mono-block solutions able to be independent, with the maximum number of functions in a relatively small space.
Multi-purpose solutions, therefore, developing the concept of furniture with a variety of uses, which has illustrious precedents in the history of Italian design. This year’s edition, in collaboration with Matrec, will be sponsored by Favaron, Gruppo Trombini, Terno Scorrevoli, and Vapsint.
